MOMENTUM follows the journey of Australian climber Angie Scarth-Johnson, who by the age of 18, had climbed three 9a grades in Europe. A child prodigy, Angie has never ceased to amaze, and after moving from her hometown Nowra to Spain in 2021, the incredible feats continued.

By the age of 17, Angie became the first Australian woman to climb a 9a grade (35), when she ascended Victimas del Futur in Margalef. This achievement kicked off a year of impressive sends, notably Victimas Perez 9a (35) and Pornographie 9a (35). The momentum gained in such a short time has everyone asking - what will Angie do next?

ABOUT ANGIE SCARTH JOHNSON

Angie started climbing when she was seven years old. By the age of nine she’d set the record as the youngest person to ever lead a Grade 31 climb – ‘Swingline’ at Red River Gorge, USA. A year later, at the age of ten, she became the youngest person to send a grade 32/33 — ‘Welcome to Tijuana’ in Rodellar Spain.

Now at 19 years of age, Angie splits her time between Europe, training hard to send high grade routes and connecting with her Spanish heritage; and Australia, where she returns to her local crag in the Blue Mountains, visits family and gives back to the climbing community through workshops and mentorship for up and coming local climbers.

In 2021, Angie became the first Australian woman to climb a grade 35/9a on Victimas del Futur and nine months later became the first female to successfully climb Victimas Perez (grade 35/9a) in Margalef, Spain - a route that requires consistent climbing on one and two finger pockets.
